Liquid Network Fully Restores Bitcoin Reserves, Reinstating 1:1 LBTC Backing

TLDR:

  • The Liquid Federation says the network’s bitcoin reserves are fully restored, backing all LBTC 1:1.
  • BTC and LBTC swaps returned weeks earlier, letting users move between networks at a 1:1 rate.
  • Reserves can be verified through Proof of Reserves on Liquid nodes or the liquid.network dashboard.
  • The Federation plans governance changes, clearer oversight, and added safeguards, with details due soon.

Liquid Network has fully restored its bitcoin reserves, reestablishing 1:1 BTC backing for every LBTC in circulation. The Liquid Federation shared the update in a post on X. The announcement follows the return of BTC and LBTC swaps several weeks ago.

Users can verify the reserves through the Federation’s Proof of Reserves and a public dashboard. The Federation also said it plans further work on governance, security, and operational safeguards for the network.

Reserves Return to Full Backing

In its post on X, the Liquid Federation confirmed that the network’s bitcoin reserves are fully restored. The update, it said, is “reestablishing 1:1 BTC backing for all LBTC.”

The Federation presented this as a milestone in its recovery efforts. The post came from the official Liquid Network account.

Swaps between BTC and LBTC came back several weeks earlier. Since then, users have moved between Bitcoin and Liquid at a 1:1 rate.

These swaps run through participating swap providers, which handle the conversions for users. The swap restoration therefore came before the full reserve recovery announced now.

According to the Federation, the two steps together show progress in its recovery work. It added that they reaffirm its commitment to the long-term security, stability, and resilience of the Liquid Network. The statement did not list further technical details on how the reserves were rebuilt.

The Federation also thanked the Bitcoin community, Liquid users, and ecosystem partners. It credited their “patience, understanding, and continued engagement” during the recovery process. In addition, it said their involvement helped restore reserves and strengthen the underlying infrastructure.

Verification Tools and Planned Upgrades

The Federation stated that the Liquid Network’s bitcoin reserves remain “independently verifiable.” Users who operate their own Liquid nodes can check the Proof of Reserves directly. This lets node operators confirm the backing without relying on a third party.

Other participants can monitor reserve balances and network activity on the public dashboard at liquid.network. The dashboard is open to anyone, so users do not need to run a node. Liquid Network users can therefore review the reserves without any technical setup.

Looking ahead, the Federation is advancing several initiatives aimed at long-term security, governance, and operational resilience. These include modernizing the governance structure.

They also include setting clearer responsibilities and oversight within the Federation. The Federation grouped these efforts under strengthening the Liquid Network for the future.

Furthermore, the Federation plans to add technical and operational safeguards to protect the network and its participants. It said more details on these initiatives and its next steps will arrive in the coming weeks.

The Federation also stated that “restoring full bitcoin backing marks an important milestone, but our work continues.” It added that it remains focused on Liquid’s development and accessibility.
